As festival season begins to wind down, one of The Electronic Current’s favorite festivals of the summer returns for its third consecutive year in Baltimore: Moonrise Festival.
I have been to many festivals, and Moonrise always stands out to me for a couple of reasons. For one thing, it is never crowded, and I always feel like I have room to dance (extremely important). Second, Moonrise always manages to bring the best mix of artists to the DMV area every single year. So for this year’s festival preview, The Electronic Current is proud to present our Top 5 must see acts.
Hailing from Canada, Shaun Frank is one of the most prolific up and coming producers in the industry right now. His productions range from the pop-influenced “La La Land”, to house-inspired tune “Heaven”. However, unlike most producers right now, Shaun Frank managed to add his own unique touch to everything that he touches. He is at the top of my list to see out of anyone on Saturday.
I first heard of Ilan Bluestone over three years ago when I heard his track “Sinai” on Above and Beyond Group Therapy Radio. I was absolutely blown away. Since then, Ilan Bluestone has proven to be one of Anjunabeats’s most promising talents, and along with Jason Ross, is my favorite trance producer. The energy in his productions makes me remember why I started listening to dance music in the first place, and after waiting 3 years I finally get to see him live. Do NOT miss this set.
Speaker Of The House
Creating his own unique flavor of deep-esque house, Speaker Of The House has carved out his own unique sound in a sea of generic sounding artists. Relying heavily on acoustic sounds and laid back bass lines, Speaker Of The House’s tunes are so pleasing to the ear you just want to keep listening to them over and over again. Catch him on Saturday!
Unlike Pluto has been on my radar for some times now. Ever since I heard his remix of Diplo’s “Revolution”, I knew big things were in store for Unlike Pluto. Fast forward a year and a half later, and he is making some of the most unique tunes around right now while being managed by the owner of Dancing Astronaut. His fusion of house with elements of trap and future bass is utterly pleasing to the ears, and his set is simply one you must see on Sunday.
This list would not be complete without mentioning San Holo. The Dutch DJ/Producer has had a meteoric rise this past year, buzzing around his unique hybrid sound of pop, future bass, and trap. Between curating his own label, bitbird, to creating banging remixes on his “Don’t Touch The Classics” channel, San Holo is becoming a force to reckoned with and will surely lay down a performance you cannot miss on Sunday!
We can’t wait to dance with all of you in Baltimore!
