On September 8th, 2008, Deadmau5 released a collaboration with fellow progressive house legend Kaskade titled “I Remember”. The ten minute masterpiece was the fifth single off of Deadmau5’s third studio album, “Random Album Title”. The remarkable amount of talent that these two artists possess combined to create the most timeless and passionate track of an entire generation. To this day, that song is still considered by many (myself included) the best electronic song of all time.
Now, nearly eight full years later, Joel Zimmerman and Ryan Raddon have descended from the heavens, where they permanently reside in a realm of living musical enlightenment, to once again grace us with their art work. The new track “Beneath With Me V.3” was released through Kaskade’s Soundcloud account earlier yesterday around 2:00pm, but it wasn’t the first time fans had heard the tune.
In May of 2015, Deadmau5 “leaked” two different versions of small snippets of this song through his Soundcloud account, “fuckmylife”. Titled simply “beneath with me” and “Beneath 02”, the tracks were both less than two minutes and only played the intro/vocals portion. The internet was set ablaze after that at the thought of another collaboration between these two electronic titans.
Well it took eight months, but a longer, more complete version of the tune has finally been released and I am simply beside myself… Once again, Deadmau5 and Kaskade managed to find a way to compliment each other’s unique and artistic approach to writing a song, producing another monumental track in electronic music history. The light, organ like synths that start the song create a tune so immeasurably captivating, it only takes a few bars for the listener to be entirely encompassed in the musical journey that it takes you on.
Normally Deadmau5 is the King of releasing music out of thin air without any warning, so I can only imagine how shocked he must have been when he saw the internet burst with excitement after Kaskade released this gem yesterday unannounced.
Although this six minute song is certainly more of a complete product than the two previews Deadmau5 released last year, I’m still not convinced that they’re finished with this track. The title that Kaskade chose for it, “Beneath With Me V.3”, suggests that there might be more versions to come. But only time will tell. For now we can just sit and relish in this amazing new song.
