If you weren’t one of the lucky ones to escape reality to attend Ultra/Music Miami Week this year, you wouldn’t have experienced Pendulum’s highly anticipated return after four years of silence. And if you were at Ultra and didn’t catch their set, where the hell were you? Fear not: the footage from the live stream Sunday night is finally up on Pendulum’s YouTube channel–their first video upload in over five years. Watch a typical Knife Party set laden with seizure-inducing drops culminate with a surprise appearance by Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello and a mashup of “Bonfire” and “Tarantula,” before what we can imagine was the most stressful changeover the Ultra staff has ever attempted.
Pendulum then prove that they’ve still got it. All of it. Rob Swire’s sings all the songs we wanted to hear nearly flawlessly and KJ Sawka’s performance could’ve given the drummer in Destroid a run for his money (if you didn’t catch the joke, they’re the same guy). Even Deadmau5 agreed to join the band on stage to perform the live version of “Ghosts n Stuff,” “Moar Ghosts n Stuff.” Ultimately, we are left satisfied but asking some questions: how much of a bitch was the technical rider to take care of? Why was Tom Morello onstage for so long? Did Deadmau5 even do anything? Most importantly: IS PENDULUM RELEASING MORE MUSIC AND TOURING AGAIN? And now, we wait to find out.
