Well he’s done it again. Electronic music’s most talented grouch/drama king has released yet another incredible tune! Just days after a now infamous Twitter feud with Kanye West over absolutely nothing, Joel Zimmerman, aka Deadmau5, has uploaded a new track titled “4ware 01” to his Soundcloud account “fuckmylife”. Just two days ago, he uploaded a one minute track onto his Soundcloud titled “Sick Days”. The track is more of just a little tune that he made, not really a song at all.
And I’ve started to notice a pattern in the way he releases music through his Soundcloud account. He’ll upload one to two tracks that are one to two minutes each and aren’t close to being full songs or finished products, and then the next day he’ll release a full length song. He’s done this with “4ware 01”, “Saved”, “gg”, Imaginary Friends”, and “Blood for the Bloodgoat”. It’s like he’s giving us a little heads up that he’s about to drop some heat!
But I digress. Back to “4ware 01”. The track is exactly nine minutes long and pulls you in from the moment it starts. Although he didn’t use the same name, it is clear that this is the fourth remake on his unreleased track tentatively titled “Entropy”. “Entropy” is a song that Zimmerman has been working on, tweaking here and there, and making subtle changes to for the better part of a year and a half. Previous to “4ware 01” there were four versions of the track (which I have added below for reference) that had continuously built off of each, becoming more and more polished and whole as time went by. Now on the fifth version, it really feels like it’s got the potential to be one of Deadmau5’s best masterpieces.
The track begins with a soft, bubbly riff. After four measures, a deep and sensual bassline is added, giving more depth and emotional strength to the track. It isn’t until just over two and a half minutes in that the main melody of his previous versions of “Entropy” is resurrected; this time using a chime like synth to ring in the angelic tune. Words cannot fully express how smooth and relaxing this track is. So close your eyes, take a listen for yourself, and let Deadmau5 seduce you with his one man electronic symphony.
