Remixing Zhu or Skrillex is no easy task. Many try, but few succeed. But remixing a Zhu + Skrillex collab? This is nearly impossible. When Zhu released his sixth and final track from his most recent EP “Genesis Series”, a collaboration with Skrillex titled “Working For It ft. THEY”, the world received in a polarizing fashion.
Some hated it but many loved it. The blend of two of electronic music’s most talented and dissimilar artists came as a huge surprise to most, but after listening, seemed so obvious and meant to be. Since the track’s release about four months ago, I’ve heard a few remixes of it here and there; but nothing really wowed me. That is until I heard the Dusty Bits remix.
Dusty Bits is a bass house duo consisting of Ryan Sinatra and Jake Broffman, two young producers from the Buffalo area of New York. They’ve been producing together for nearly a year now and have a very impressive amount of high quality tracks out on their Soundcloud including remixes of RL Grime, HeRobust and Rusko.
Their most recent piece is a “Dusted” remix of the Zhu + Skrillex collab, just being released earlier today. The track really shows their immense technical producing abilities. They kept the same chord progression and left the lyrics intact, but switched up the beat to a faster, more up paced tempo that bass house listeners have come to love. Using a synth that sounds like something straight out a late 80’s electronica track, they sped up the melody leading into the drop.
A quick moment of silence followed by four strong drum beats leads into the drop which reminds me a lot of the work of the new bass house duo Ephwurd. Sharp and scratchy synths transport me to an illuminated dance floor, giving me a feeling of pure bass music bliss. All in all this is by far my favorite remix of the track, and it just goes to show that Dusty Bits are just getting started!
