One of my personal favorites, Luca Lush, recently remixed a classic track from the 2000’s MGMT’s “Kids“. The remix begins with a recognizable sample from the original song before building up the energy with his upbeat synths to create a fast paced future bass beat, halfway through the track Luca flips the track around bringing in samples for Flinch and Ellie Goulding’s “You Don’t Know”. One of my favorite characteristics of Luca Lush’s music is that you never know what to expect as the track progresses, and this is certainly one of them as the second drop following the Ellie Goulding samples goes deep and slow in contrast to the first drop, before bringing back the nostalgic Kids sample.
Flume is out with the second single from his upcoming album Skin, “Smoke and Retribution“, a collaboration with rapper Vince Staples and fellow Australian Kučka. Staples known for his Summertime ’06 album and aggressive rap style brings the heat with his heavy verses as the track weaves between that and the smooth vocals of Kučka for the hook. Flume does an excellent job complementing the vocals of both, making a unique collaboration track.
One of many outstanding tracks on the new OWSLA WorldWide broadcast is Mija’s remix of DJ Snake’s catchy collaboration with Bipolar Sunshine “Middle“. The remix creates a bubbly sound as the vocals are pitched higher and the melodic drop of the original is tweaked by Mija to have a much more upbeat energetic sound.
The last track of the week is another remix by Louis The Child, who have been on a roll as of late pushing out new tracks like no tomorrow. January isn’t even over yet and already in 2016, the duo has put out 3 remixes and 1 original, with 2 of tracks released this week. The original was released as part of the OWSLA Worldwide Broadcast alongside the aforementioned Mija remix of Middle. The remix is of The Knock’s “I Wish“. Louis The Child add a groovy feel to the indie track with their signature synths making alongside expertly layered melodies, yet again demonstrating their talent as they continue to hit the ground running with their strong momentum from 2015.
