On the latest installment of Unreleased Gold, I examine two new Skrillex tunes that we are all eagerly waiting to be officially released. Skrillex is an artist that needs no introduction. The man is fully responsible for my falling in love with electronic music staring back in 2010 with the released of his debut album “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”. After that his domination of the base music kingdom was swift and effortless releasing two more albums and numerous EPs, singles and remixes. To this day, Skrillex has dozens of unreleased gold mines that he’s sitting on, teasing his fans more and more with each rip or shitty YouTube quality video that surfaces. Why he waits to release them, we will never know. All we can do is sit and wait as patiently as we can, and pray to the Base Gods that he will soon bless us with his righteous base.
Even though it’s not an official release, the sound quality on this Soundcloud link of Skrillex’s new remix for Neoprene’s track “L’homme aux 4 Lettres” is superb. This new unreleased remix just surfaced a few days ago, but has been being played at his shows for a couple months now. The first high quality listen Skrillex fans got of it was in the release of Snails’ most recent ID filled mixtape titled “Snailed It Vol. 3”. The song demonstrates a return to Skrillex’s base music domination days, after his recently delving into the pop music world with his collaborative work on Justin Bieber’s new album and his work as part of Jack U. “LH4L” features a rough and jagged baseline that towards the end of the drop transforms into a much more melodic and polished quick chord progression. In my opinion this is one of Skrillex’s best complete works in quite a while.
A second unreleased Skrillex track worth listening to is an original track of his tentatively titled “Bollystep”. This song was first played live at a Skrillex concert in India back in early October. The track was then put on Soundcloud from a rip of Skrillex’s epic back to back set with Noisia at his hidden location free party in Amsterdam as part of the Amsterdam Dance Event. The invite only party took place inside a small room that was resting on a crane platform and elevated 75 feet in the air and was live streamed for the whole world to watch on Twitch. Despite only featuring a very quick buildup and the drop of the song, another better quality rip of the track has emerged for your listening pleasure. Like the Neoprene remix, this new tune also dons an extremely base heavy drop with a classic filthy dub style sound to it which has an Indian influence infused about it as well.
