Bear Grillz is signed to Datsik’s record label Firepower Records, his Soundcloud account says he’s from Yosemite, and the only pictures that can be found of him are either that of a cartoon bear or him performing live, where he always wears a large bear costume head piece and onesie. Just like other mystery men like Zhu and Marshmello, Bear Grillz keeps his identity undisclosed as a means of showing his commitment to the music alone. Bear Grillz first burst onto the scene about a year and a half ago when he released his debut EP titled “The High Grade EP” through Firepower Records featuring his hit single “Demons”. Since then he has released four more EP’s and a few singles including one collaboration with Datsik.
On Tuesday, Grillz released yet another phenomenal remix, this time of Trap Queen Alison Wonderland’s track “Run”. The original version is a slow, chilled out future trap track which has a very relaxing and hypnotizing effect to it. Bear Grillz’s remix however is anything but relaxing. The dubstep spewing grizzly bear twisted and contorted the stems of Alison Wonderland’s track so skillfully, completely switching up the tempo and feel to the entire song. The drop features intense and growling synths blasting out like a firing squad equipped with machine guns that reminded me a lot of Virtual Riot or Dodge & Fuski. With more tracks like these, Bear Grillz we be at the top of the dubstep game in no time.
Au5 is one of EDM’s most brilliant and unique up and coming artists. Hailing from New Jersey, Austin Collins is a twenty three year old dubstep/drum and bass/electro house/glitch hop artist who has a limitless amount of talent in multiple different genres. He first blew up after winning the Seven Lions remix contest for his original track “Days To Come”. Au5 worked together with fellow bass music producer I.Y.F.F.E. for this track, which is still one of his most popular songs to date. Collins has put out two self released albums titled “Minimality” and “Anchus Definy” as well as nine EPs, three of which were released on Monstercat. Almost all Au5 tracks feature an extremely rare and particular bass synth, which many other producers would die to have their hands on and have tried and failed to mimic.
This brand new Au5 remix is no different, and once again Collins has proven why he is considered by many to be one of dubstep’s next big artist. Remixing psy-trance legends Infected Mushroom’s newest hit single “Fields of Grey ft. Sasha Grey” (yes, that Sasha Grey), Au5 went and did something that is seldom done; he took an excellent original track and found a way to improve it to an even better final product. I truly believe this is Au5’s crowning achievement thus far in his young and enormously promising career. This seven and half minute long dubstep masterpiece will knock you right out of your seat with its stunning combination of spine tingling melodies and explosive bass lines. Enjoy!
