Listen Out is one of Australia’s premiere music festivals which annually draws talent from across Australia and the globe. The Festival just kicked off in Melbourne yesterday and hits each of Australia’s major cities, including Sydney this coming Friday, October 6th. This year, Listen Out features a lot of American and Australian talent in a lineup that’s guaranteed to deliver. Here are the artists we’re most excited about.SBTRKT is obviously the first must-see on our list. Over the years, SBTRKT has earned his place among the Flying Lotus’s and Flume’s of the industry– boasting that often-coveted, rarely achieved reputation of having a totally unique and innovative style, which also succeeds in becoming quite popular. Expect the unexpected, and have faith that SBTRKT will deliver a set to remember. Another obvious pick, booking ODESZA is definitely a win for Listen Out attendees. The timing is perfect, as Odesza just reasserted their unique talent with their excellent remix of Porter Robinson’s “Divinity,” which will be the opening track of the highly anticipated “Worlds Remixed” EP. They were also recently featured on BBC Radio’s Diplo & Friends show, in which they all but dropped their traditionally pretty sound for a very tasteful trap mix. This mix makes me even more excited to see what they do for their Listen Out audience. In a surprising set times decision (assumably to offset headliners SBTRKT and Childish Gambino) the masked, Aussie, tech-house wizard known as Golden Features will perform just after SBTRKT to close the 909 Stage. His recent XXIV EP is one of the most unique and consistent deep/tech house EP’s I’ve heard in a while, and unless you’re a die-hard Donald Glover fan (I’m not) I would absolutely recommend catching some deep vibes from Golden Features.
Gotta make a plug for our girl Alison Wonderland as she makes her triumphant return to Australia for Listen Out after a whirlwind of a tour through the States. Recently, the future-beats queen exchanged remixes with the ever-influential Aussie duo Hermitude, and check out her Soundcloud for a slew of remixes of her debut album, “Run.” Definitely looking forward to hearing her new releases live. For the early birds planning to arrive around 3pm, be sure to catch Client Liason, a nu-disco / electronica group hailing from Melbourne. Their disco/pop is infectiously fun and they’re sure to deliver a fun opening act.
