This week we catch up once again with artists we’ve featured in the past who have recently released some great new tunes. This time we see what AGLORY, Maceo Plex, and Four Tet have been up to since we last saw them.
French Gothic Techno talents, AGLORY, is back this time with another dark and twisted remix. This time focusing their efforts on Wuki’s “Lip Pop” grounding the track in some nice crunchy bass and percussive exhaling, circa Gesaffelstein “Hate or Glory” era. This young duo has been keeping their sound consistent with an impressive slew of originals and remixes populating their soundcloud. Their references are very clear drawing inspiration from fellow countrymen while adding a future bass approach that has paid off quite well. Make sure to keep your eyes on these two, it won’t be the last time we hear from them.
The ever reliable Maceo Plex is once again back at the top of the Beatport Techno Charts. His latest chart-climbing sensation “Solar Detroit” is a bit of a departure from previous records, this tune emphasizes an orchestral element above the typical Maceo-club groove. Sounding like a cross between the Inception soundtrack and a club edit of a Tycho track, the expansive strings and deep bass bellows of “Solar Detroit” envelop the listener in a rapturous embrace. A new personal favorite, let’s hope Maceo keeps experimenting with different sounds in the future.
It was only two weeks ago when we spotlighted Four Tet’s techier aliases and productions but he hasn’t kept quiet since. Mere hours ago synthpop trio CHVRCHES uploaded a Four Tet remix of their new lead single “Leave A Trace,” of their upcoming sophomore album, in celebration of an upcoming show the two acts will be playing together in London. Stripping away the bright shimmering synths of the original, Four Tet substitutes a dreamier drawn out soundscape that floats gently over top of a lo-fi club beat. If the original “Leave A Trace” was your summer anthem this remix is your nostalgic look back as summer draws to a close.
