Once again it’s Monday, and once again I have some beautiful music to share with all of you. I apologize for my lack of action with this post recently, I have been extremely busy as a recent grad with a new job but will do my best to get consistent again with this post.
To start off strong we have a new remix from trap-gawd Mr. Carmack, a flip of Oakland native Khelani’s ‘Jealous.’ In this track Carmack shows why his fans are so diehard. It starts slow, with muddled drums and a eerie sample creating the scene for Khelani’s vocals to take over, and maintains a laid back feel throughout. Although the song remains simple, each sound is placed with the tact of a mastermind. All hail Carmack the gawd.
Next up is a track from Ta-ku’s new 8 track EP ‘Songs to Make Up To.’ The song is ‘Down For You’ featuring Alina Baraz and co-produced by Atu. Fans of Galimatias will recognize Alina Baraz from their Urban Flora EP, with the most popular track of theirs being ‘Fantasy.’ Another smooth one, ‘Down For You’ features jazzy piano chords played alongside the sentimental yearnings of Baraz’s luscious vocals.
To finish up are two tracks from Derek Pope, and LA-based producer/ vocalist who I have just recently discovered. ‘Raincoats’ and ‘Seat Back’ stay with the mellow theme of this week, and feature a unique style of futuristic production that includes more progressive elements and sounds while remaining comprehensive and subtle. Long story short, Derek Pope is tight, check his shit out.
