Summer is in full swing. The beaches are open once again, the ice cream truck is making the rounds, and it feels like there’s a festival going on every weekend. With the long Fourth of July weekend fast approaching we’ve compiled some fresh new tech to spice up your BBQ playlists. So put on your swimsuit, slap a couple burgers on the grill, and enjoy the long weekend.
It wouldn’t be a proper BBQ without some Dirtybird. Justin Martin & Ardalan returned this week to give away their VIP version of their smash hit “Function.” The acid house rework breaks down the original into a bouncing hip-hop beat before adding in some squelching acid synth lines to tear things up while keeping the iconic “walk up in the function, I shake my ass” vocal courtesy of Patty. The original was already a certified party starter so you know that this one’s gonna live up to the hype (did I mention that it’s free too?).
Partyfine is currently bringing all the summery vibes with their tropical mix of disco and tech house on their latest label compilation Partyfine Vol. 2. Label head Yuksek teamed up with Juveniles to give birth to the label’s self-titled calling card “Partyfine.” The piano-driven melody is surrounded by sunny guitar chords and vintage vocals culminating in a disco-y sounding tech tune that is perfect for sipping cocktails by the pool.
British brother duo Disclosure have triumphantly returned, announcing their sophomore LP Caracal which is set to feature numerous collaborations including a new song with Sam Smith! Their single “Bang That” has had one of the most interesting and innovative drops this year and proved remix cat-nip for producers. Frenchman Don Rimini like the song so much he remixed it twice! His ‘Berlin Version’ features thumping techno with a bit of Detroit flare thanks to Disclosure’s excellent sample digging. Another free download that would make a valuable addition to any collection.
Summer wouldn’t be complete without an anthem to rally behind and 2015’s comes to us courtesy of Robyn & La Bagatelle Magique. Given the recent Supreme Court ruling, the title “Love is Free” feels especially apropos for the celebratory feeling currently sweeping the US. Full of clanging cowbells, honking horns, and some Latin vibes from Maluca this house tune just feels like a good time. So gather around your friends, family, and strangers that seem nice and dance until the sun goes down and the fireworks come up.
