Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Japanese Wallpaper is making some serious waves in the indie/alternative electronica scene with his self-titled EP. Featuring excellent vocalists on each track, this is truly a beautiful record. The first track on the album, “Between Friends,” is also probably the most upbeat, but the lyrics set the nostalgic tone of the EP.
“Waves (ft. Pepa Knight)” may be the most beautiful track on the EP. It starts off slow and somber, but in the last minute and a half, the soaring, etherial vocals sing “If I could feel something, if I could only be something” over such a well executed climax that gives you chills. The production and vocals are both uplifting and melancholy at the same time. Japanese Wallpaper outdoes himself.
“Arrival” is the last song on the EP and it’s the most touching of the bunch. Gentle, almost ambient production and soft, nostalgic lyrics brings all the feels and leaves you thirsty for more. Keep an ear on Japanese Wallpaper.
