Electro House Wednesday has now moved to Saturday, which is convenient for both of us. I get more time to actually write the post (I am a full-time student and part time employee) and you get to be exposed to the cooooolest new electro house just in time for high time party time. This week features two extremely well-known artists and two not-so-well known artists. All valid.
It’s no surprise that the newest song from Galantis is nothing short of pure joy and breathtaking beauty. “Gold Dust” proves that even formulaic progressive house can be really, really infectious because it is just that expertly produced and mixed. A happy, catchy hook helps too.
Next is a track from another huge force in EDM right now, Jack U, side project of Skrillex and Diplo. Jack U released their first album this past Thursday at midnight during their 24-hour-long mix. “Jungle Bae” featuring Bunji Garlin stands out as the only elcectro house track on the album, so it will likely be played a lot during festival season. Also because it is straight fire.
Off of Rawtek’s new “Lizard King” remix EP, Funk Craig provides the most popular remix. It is indeed funky, mostly in the shuffling nature of the second drop. There’s something very refreshing about Funky Craig’s sound design on this one, probably in the way that the sound through the drop seems to emulate a mouth opening and closing. As we learned from Skrillex, mouth noises can get you very far.
“Burner,” the last song on the playlist, goes the hardest. This new track from Kayzo honestly gets better and better the further you progress through the song and then the more times you listen to the whole thing. That second drop… the stereo movement of that tubular sound is just so satisfying. Kayzo wins this week.
