Just before the New Year our entire staff got together to discuss which artists we were excited about for 2015 – primarily those who will be releasing a major project and break into the spotlight. After a decent amount of disagreement and heated discussion, we settled on 15 artists – one from each writer. Throughout the year we will be publishing a profile article, an interview, and a series of articles on each artists releases (and for most their debut album as well). Here is Haywyre and why our team is so excited about what he has in store for 2015. You can see all of our Spotlight articles here, or click “Spotlight Artists” from the menu.
2014 was a year full of success and opportunity for Martin Vogt, aka Haywyre. After the release of his Two Fold Pt.1 LP, he toured with widely influential artists such as Gramatik and Mat Zo. His remix of ‘Smooth Criminal’ received a ton of attention for its imaginative and unique sound, a welcome reminder of how much a talented pianist can do. As part of the blossoming Monstercat music label, Haywyre is en route to a prosperous and rewarding career thanks to his instrumental dexterity and production skills. His elegant chord arrangements construct a lucid narrative and weave a wide range of emotions from track to track. If you scroll through the comments on his soundcloud page you will notice that there’s quite a few ‘eargasms’ and sense of euphoria. His trademark seems to be pairing powerful harmonies with fluid transitions into glitchy drops that are consistently funky, then occasionally moving onto heavier bass breaks.
Let’s make a pact, let’s agree that 2015 should mark the dawn of a new era; a time for us fans to only seek and support the most talented and inventive producers around. Haywyre fits this description snugly. It’s a good thing that he’s soon to start his first solo tour in 2015! With nine dates on the schedule of the Two Fold tour, Martin Vogt carefully picked each venue to cater to the experience he aims to bring to his fans. Booking venues with character and history over popular clubs proves he is dedicated to present his act in a certain way, reluctant to miss out on making a personal connection with the crowd for people who didn’t come for the music. Haywyre is definitely an artist to be on the lookout for in 2015.
Smooth and groovy, this remix pays homage to a legend. Michael Jackson is undeniably honored by this sophisticated and timeless reinvention of his work. Check out his new release below and make sure to catch him on his first national headlining tour!
“If there’s one aspect of my music career that I really want to explore a bit more heavily, it’s my live performances. Playing the keyboard is not just a vital part of my production, but also my sets; I think it’s important to showcase that quality. Not to mention, my jazz roots are mad at me for not playing out my licks live more often; It’s not hard to see why I’m so excited about doing my first solo tour.”
