Sometimes the search for good new music can seem unending. Luckily for you, I just made your job a whole lot easier. So stop your Soundcloud search, sit back, relax, and enjoy some Electro Soul.
Our first track is by Chartreuse, an up-and-coming producing duo from Toronto, Canada. According to their Soundcloud bio, Tyr Kohout provides the Electro, while Dustin Stern provides the soul with his guitar riffs. Together, they really do create “a sound that’s as refreshing as it is danceable”. “Funkatron” in particular showcases their talent as artists. Although at first the song sounds rather simplistic, a closer listening reveals that it isn’t. The layering and mixing of tracks is so cohesive that even though there’s a lot going on, the result is a laid-back and soothing. I, for one, am looking forward to whatever Chartreuse puts out in the future- they’re worth keeping an eye on.
Next comes “Get On It (ft. Jay Fresh)” by Marvel Years. Starting off with looped guitar, the track builds as drums, synths, and brass hits are layered on. Fifty seconds in, the song reaches its first drop, but the energy continues to build from there. New samples are added throughout the song, and Jay Fresh adds just the right amount edginess to keep the groove going.
Finally, I present to you “Just For The Thrill”, by Electro Soul and Funk titans Big Gigantic. Off their recently released album The Night Is Young, this song is amazing in more ways than one. Not only does it combine great drums and fantastic production, the saxophone is on point throughout the song. It’s highlighted by the synths, but not used so much that it becomes overbearing, creating the perfect fusion of analog and digital.
Hopefully these Soul Sunday songs will help to carry you through the upcoming week, and don’t forget to come back for more once it’s over.
Keep on vibing,
